Revolutionising Airport Noise Management at CSIA Mumbai with NoiseDesk

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA Mumbai) transformed its approach to environmental noise management by implementing NoiseDesk, a web-based noise monitoring system. Faced with complex urban noise challenges and evolving regulatory requirements, the airport adopted an innovative solution to ensure compliance and improve community engagement. 

CSIA Mumbai, operated by Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), is one of India's busiest airports. It handles approximately 36 million passengers and 700,000 tonnes of cargo annually, serving 45 international and 47 domestic destinations. With over 750 aircraft movements daily, the airport plays a critical role in connecting India with the world. 

The airport faced challenges in accurately monitoring noise levels due to the dense urban environment. With new regulations from the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), CSIA Mumbai needed a comprehensive solution to integrate multiple data sources, automate compliance reporting, and analyse the impact of noise on surrounding communities. 

To address these challenges, CSIA Mumbai implemented NoiseDesk. This system provides 24/7 noise and flight monitoring, integrates with flight and weather data, and automates reporting processes. Strategically placed noise monitoring terminals, including stationary and mobile units, enable precise sound level tracking, enhancing the airport's ability to respond to noise events and comply with regulations.
