The Return of Supersonic
This session exploring NASA’s Quesst mission sees us enter the climb phase and think about what the Flightpath to the Future could look like. NASA's Quesst mission has two goals:
1) Design and build NASA's X-59 research aircraft with technology that reduces the loudness of a sonic boom to a gentle thump; and
2) Fly the X-59 over several U.S. communities to gather data on human responses to the sound generated during supersonic flight and deliver that data set to U.S. and international regulators.
A discussion will follow the presentation where we explore what the return of supersonic will mean for specifically for airports.
Afternoon (13:00-17:00)
Pathway to Net Zero
As the FORUM23 flight continues climbing, this session explores challenges around future airspace modernization. Airspace Navigation Service Providers shoulder the responsibility of determining flight paths for aircraft. Modernizing airspace to accommodate the growing capacity demands poses a substantial challenge for ANSPs, as they look to balance environmental impact with operational efficiency. Within these challenges, the enroute sectors stand out as they account for the most significant fuel consumption and play a pivotal role in the aviation industry's carbon footprint.
Learn about NAV CANADA’s approach to address these challenges, which involves a blend of cutting-edge technology and industry proficiency to gauge their operational performance aligned with CANSO standards and their environmental impact.
The second part to this session will explore Toronto Pearson’s perspective on the initiative, as they look to optimize operational efficiency while upholding their Net Zero goals.
Afternoon
The Rise of Urban Air Mobility
As we approach cruising altitude, we will discover what the future of urban Air Mobility looks like and how eVTOLs will disrupt transportation and transform the industry. This session will explore how vehicles are designed for low noise operation, but also considers the factors of annoyance beyond noise levels and how community acceptance lessons learned in traditional aviation can be taken to prepare for this transformation of the skies.
Afternoon
Shaping Noise Mitigation Strategies with Noise Action Plans (panel)
Now we are in the cruise phase, turn on your in-flight entertainment and join this panel discussion on noise action plans. Bringing international perspectives to the conversation, this session will explore why noise action plans are needed, how they shape noise mitigation and management, and how they drive investigation into new ground-breaking technologies and approaches.
Evening (18:30-22:30)

Promoting Airports to the Community (panel)
Public scrutiny around the changes that airports need to make to add capacity, build new infrastructure, change routes, add new airlines, and introduce new aircraft types is intense, informed, and relentless. As we descend towards our destination, turn your in-flight entertainment back on and tune in to this panel discussion exploring alternative approaches to building community advocacy and collaborating with stakeholders, including stories and lessons around what has worked well and what has not.
Afternoon (13:00-17:00)
Maximising the Value of your NOMS System (panel)
A Noise and Operations (NOMS) System has the potential to provide so much more than just noise and complaints management. As make our final approach, this panel discussion will delve into the additional benefits you can extract from your NOMS system including understanding operational impacts and improvements, and additional uses for noise data both internally and externally.
Afternoon
Noise & Flight Track Reporting
As the FORUM23 aircraft is about to land on the runway, we delve into reporting on noise and flight track data and explore additional ways you can extract value. Static reports are out-of-date the moment they are generated, and don’t always give stakeholders the important information they need. This session will discuss how live data and dashboards can address this.
Afternoon
Air Quality & Greenhouse Gas Management (panel)
As we taxi in towards the terminal, your Envirosuite pilots and cabin crew thank you for choosing to fly FORUM23. This final panel session will go beyond noise to discuss approaches to air quality management around airports and accurate carbon emissions modelling across each phase of flight, with stories from the Egyptian Airports Company in Egypt, Biggin Hill Airport in the UK, and Aena in Spain.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on our next FORUM flight.
